Holiday shopping can be so much fun, especially when you already know what to get your loved ones. But what about those hard-to-shop for friends and family? I’ve always struggled with what to buy for adolescents for the holidays, until this year! Our oldest is just clearing the “preteen” stage and I’m also teaching sixth grade at work. That translates to “Nikki is always around 11-14 year-olds”. I’ve learned a few things about this age group that I think may help you in your holiday shopping. Check out my suggestions in this list of 13 gift ideas for teens and preteens!
Gift Ideas for Teens and Preteens
As a teacher, I must recommend a book. I strongly suggest the best-selling novel Wonder by R.J Palacio. Every kid I’ve met that has read it has also highly enjoyed it. It’s currently in production to be a movie with a great cast including Julia Roberts so… There you go. It’s gotta be good.
Electronic devices can be the lifeblood of the teenage species. Keep them going strong with a portable charger that works with either an Android or iPhone.
Let them enjoy their music at top quality with a set of wireless headphones.
Don’t forget to check out Garmin’s fitness band.
Give your teen the gift of glamour with the E.L.F. Spotlight Ready 50 Color Eye & Face Palette.
Teens and preteens will love these cool metallic tattoos!
Today’s trendy young person might get a kick out of these tees
A nice watch is the perfect accessory for any guy or girl
Let your teen capture the perfect group selfie with a wireless selfie stick
Or fly a drone around the neighborhood
Rounding out these gift ideas for teens and tweens with a few more “big kid” toys:
A mini basketball hoop gives busy teens a fun indoor activity when the weather is bad.
Apples to Apples is an outrageously silly game that kids and adults enjoy.
A magic kit gives your preteen a way to amaze their friends and family. This one comes with 100+ magic tricks and an instructional DVD.
This age can be tough because everything they want is expensive, which is why most of these items are under $30. Of course, not all kids are going to be interested in the same things. Hopefully these ideas can help you get started thinking about what to buy an 11-14-year-old.
