Well, baby #4 will be here in the next 6 weeks or so. In our hearts we are ready to meet him and love him to pieces. But in our home you’d never guess that we are expecting a new baby.
Crib: We don’t have one. Well, that’s not exactly true. We have 2 cribs, but they’re currently occupied by the twins.
Clothing and blankets: We don’t have a stitch of blue or boy-colored anything. We have girl clothes from size preemie to 24 months, and plenty of pink blankets. So, technically, he’ll be provided for. I just might want to slap a blue “I’m a boy” button on his pink receiving blanket.
Diapers: With the twins, we stockpiled diapers from about my fourth month of pregnancy on. Hmmm… It looks like we’ll be buying them on an as-needed basis with this little guy.
But, really, what do you truly need for a new baby? We’re pretty minimal around here, and there is still a lot of baby stuff in storage. If I dig around a bit I could find a bouncer, a carseat and base, and a baby carrier. I plan to nurse, so bottles won’t be necessary until I go back to work. What else is there?
This is just starting to feel pathetic. If we even had a baby book for him (note to self: buy a baby book!), written inside it would be, “I’m sorry you had to spend the first few weeks of your life in your older sisters’ jammies. I love you with all my heart, baby John _______ Stevens.”
Because, along with everything else, he also doesn’t have a middle name yet.
