One Word 2013 Recap: Faith

Last year chose the word faith to be my main focus for 2013 because I felt that this was an area of my life that was weak. In early January 2013, with a whole new year ahead of me, I knew that I wanted to improve in my faith as a Christian. I had no idea that God would take this opportunity to test me! But of course everything turned out fine for me and my family, with God leading me through the year and me faithfully trusting in Him.

Faith was the focus of my decision to make a huge career change. I felt that God was leading me in a different direction, so I followed His will and left my secure job for one closer to home. I know it sounds like an easy decision, but the new job paid less and in taking it I would lose my tenure, which meant I wasn’t guaranteed a teaching position the next year. Just a few months into the new job, I was told that there wouldn’t be a position for me in the fall . Imagine my disappointment! I loved the district I was working in, and had gone from teaching for 6 years to suddenly unemployed. But I had faith that, whether or not this job was in God’s plan for me, he would provide for me and my family. OneWord2013_faith

I kind of forgot to post any more about faith after June of last year. Football season started, family stayed with us for a week in July, and life just got busy. But, although I wasn’t sharing with the whole online world about it, faith was still guiding me through each day. And, the Friday before school started, I was offered a job at the school that had thought they wouldn’t have a position for me, the same school my big boy goes to. Yay!

So in case you missed them, here are my posts from One Word 2013. Reading them now is like reading last year’s diary. All my hopes and fears, combined with the Lord’s assurance that He is in control and it is not my life but His, all summed up in 4 measly blog posts. Next year I might try and write more about my word. But then again, I might not!

Keeping the Faith

Disappointed but not Brokenhearted If you read only one, read this one. It was my favorite!

Setting goals, making resolutions, or choosing a single word to define you for the new year are all great ways to set your mind on your priorities. I’m hoping the t=my word for this year will lead me purposefully through 2014. What about you? Are you a resolution person or a Goal person? Or are you a fellow one-worder?  I’d love to know- what is your focus for 2014?
