The creative geniuses at Walt Disney Studios have been hard at work cooking up some incredible hits for this year. The studio recently released the schedule of movies opening in 2018 and I am so looking forward to seeing them! We love going to the theater, and we especially enjoy watching Disney movies as a family! Be sure and check back here often, as I’ll update this post when new media becomes available.
Disney Movies Opening in 2018
Black Panther – February 16
Based on the Marvel comic book character, Black Panther follows the young king of the fictional African nation of Wakanda T’Challa as he fights to prevent a world war. He gets his enhanced strength as Black Panther by ingesting the Heart-Shaped Herb.

A Wrinkle in Time – March 9
This is based on one of my favorite books! I first read it as an adult. It was one of the bedtime stories that I read to Logan when he was in 4th grade. You still have time to read it before the movie opens, and you’ll be so glad you did!

Avengers: Infinity War – May 4
I don’t know if I’m more excited to see this because it’s got so many of my favorite heroes (namely, Tony Stark!), or because it comes out on Star Wars Day!! The Avengers team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy against Thanos when he comes to Earth to collect the Infinity Stones for a gauntlet that will allow him to bend reality to his will.

Solo: A Star Wars Story – May 25
This Star Wars story takes place before the events of the 1977 film. The characters include Hans, Chewbacca, and Lando Calrissian. The Star Wars movies never disappoint, and this one is sure to be amazing!

Incredibles 2 – June 15
This is the Disney Movie in 2018 that I am the MOST excited to see. I’ve spent the past 14 years waiting in anticipation to see this heroic family back on the big screen. A few years back I got hooked on the Disney Infinity Incredibles video game just because I love the original movie so much. In the long-awaited sequel to the 2004 movie, this time it is the mom Helen “AKA Elastigirl”) is out fighting crime while dad Bob (Mr. Incredible) is home with the kids. It takes place immediately after the close of the last movie, which means there will be a return of the uber-cool Frozone!

Ant-Man and The Wasp – July 6
The duo return to tackle a new mission to bring to light secrets from their past.

Disney’s Christopher Robin – August 3
This live-action film centers around the Christopher Robin of the Hundred Acre Wood adventures, only now he is grown and has lost his way. I can’t wait to see where Disney Studios take this story! Will there be heartwarming scenes of self-discovery and reflection? I hope so!

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms – November 2
Perfectly timed for the Holiday season, this should be a fun family movie for those long breaks from school! The traditional Nutcracker characters, Clara, the Tin Soldier, and the mice, with the plot line winding through the lands of Snowflakes, Flowers, and Sweets should be an exciting way of bringing the ballet to life. Won’t it be fun to see Kiera Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy?

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 – November 21
Our favorite bad guy is back, and this time he leaves the video game to set out into the land of the internet! He and Vanellope are on an adventure in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope’s video game, Sugar Rush.

Mary Poppins Returns – December 25
This looks like it’s going to be an amazing movie! It takes place 25 years after the original movie, with Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) stepping in to help the children of now-grown-up Michael Banks! In this sequel, Mary Poppins’ playful friend Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda) is a lamplighter. With this energetic duo of lead characters, the movie is bound to be a fun family flick.

I’m already marking my calendar for these Disney movies (with little stars and happy faces on the dates of my favorite ones ;). Which of the upcoming Disney movies are you looking forward to seeing?
