Growing up, my mom would avoid buying iceberg lettuce because she said it “tasted like cardboard”. Now that I’m a grownup, I’m pretty sure her “tastes like cardboard” argument was just a ploy to get us to eat more of the healthier stuff.
I recently looked into the health differences of lettuces because, let’s face it, when you’re grocery shopping on a budget it’s pretty tempting to go for the cheap stuff, even if it’s not as good for you. But when it comes to nutritional value in vegetables, paying a few cents more for Romaine can make a big difference!
Thanks to Mom, my 5 siblings and I have a good appetite for nutritional foods. Next time you’re shopping for a healthy dinner salad, I encourage you to also go for the Romaine lettuce!
