Keeping a tidy house is a process that requires ongoing effort. You are going to feel overwhelmed with the amount of cleaning to be done if you always save it for the weekend.
Tips for keeping a tidy house:
Some places in the home can end up becoming a catch-all for clutter, like near the front door or wherever daily clutter gets piled up. Shoes, backpacks, and purses easily find themselves in your entryway. I love this idea from I’m an Organizing Junkie-And You Can Be, Too! on making a functional “mud area”. Hooks are great for backpacks, coats and purses, while an ottoman or storage trunk subtly tucks away odds and ends.
Control paper clutter
When it comes to paper clutter, you have to find a system of organization that works for you. Try not to let it pile on your counters or tabletops. Periodically go through all the mail and file it away, make digital copies of the information, or recycle/shred the papers.
I love this binder for keeping track of all those important dates like dentists appointments or school events. How could you not be organized with such a handy little notebook?

Don’t drop mail on the counter. Instead, place it in a letter holder until you have time to sort through it. The key to keeping papers tidy is to deal with bills and important mail right away. Mark the info on your calendar, write the thank-you note, or schedule the bill in your online banking app so you can toss the paper and be free of the clutter.
These wall-mounted baskets are also a neat way to organize mail. You can attach it to the wall right by the door. That way the mail isn’t even taking up any of your counter space.

Clearly communicate your expectations
Keeping a tidy house is going to be tough if the other members of your household aren’t on board. Share your vision with your spouse/roommate/older children and make sure they support your efforts. If you have older children, you can motivate them by offering incentives for helping out around the house.
Get into a routine
A cleaning schedule can give you some guidance and help your stay on track. If it is overwhelming to tackle all those tasks each day, do the ‘big stuff’ and make note of what still needs to be done at a later date.

Don’t give up!
There will be days (or even weeks) when you will fall behind. The important thing is to not get trapped into old habits again and to get back on track with your cleaning schedule. So keep doing what you can and be happy that you’re doing your best!
