The kids are in bed, and I’m enjoying the peaceful sounds of the evening. The clock in the living room counts the seconds as the weekend comes to a close. Looking back, this weekend was busier than I prefer. I did have one highlight that I can’t wait to share with you. Here is the rundown of my sort of crafty weekend.
School Picnic
On Friday John, Johnny and I joined the girls at school for a picnic-style lunch. What a great way to start the weekend! Although, it was really hot. To be honest, I kind of forgot about the picnic until their teacher reminded me, like, 45 minutes before the lunch and I was out with Johnny. I did pack a lunch for him, but of course I didn’t make myself one. We still had a great time with out little family, sans Logan (this time).
The school was having the bi-annual book fair. John and had previously I discussed the books Madeline and Emily had on their wish list, and agreed that they were too expensive for 5-year-olds. Folks, it’s a whole different story once you’re in the book fair. Needless to say, Madeline and Emily left the fair with their very own Shopkins diaries, complete with lock and keys. It turned out to be a great investment because they spent the rest of the weekend writing, and then locking the diary so Johnny couldn’t “read” all their secrets. Spoiler alert: Madeline’s favorite is apple jack, and Emily likes to write “once upon a time” stories. They also narrate as they’re writing, so it doesn’t matter that their 3-year-old brother can’t read.
Artistic Expression
A while back a friend and I got a Groupon for one of those paint-your-own-pottery places. We went to CeramiCafe in San Diego, and had so much fun! I just love letting my creative juices flow, don’t you? At first I was terrified by all that empty white clay. I soon realized that there are tons of stencils and stamps, so you can LOOK like you know what you’re doing without actually being any good at art! That’s my jam.
I made a little star-shaped box for each of the girls. I have to wait 5 days for them to be fired, and I’ll be sure and share them on Insta when I get them back!
Chores
The rest of the weekend was errands, housekeeping, and other boring stuff. The kids are getting to such an easy age, when they entertain each other and play games together. I’m loving watching them grow up together. Madeline got to spend her dollar that the Tooth Fairy left her. She picked out a cute little puppy in a carrier from Big Lots, and Mommy covered the difference. 😉
One funny thing happened when we were at the grocery store. We shop at Winco, and buy our groceries in bulk when we can. We were in the bulk aisle and I think I was trying to find the unsweetened shredded coconut or something. The 3 little ones were checking out each bin and giving it a label: “eeew, eeew, yummy, eeew, yummy, yummy, eeew…” and they came across this bin. All at once they declared in unison “SNOW!!”

Total messy face. Mom fail!
Silly Southern California kids. It’s a barrel of baking soda.
I hope your Saturday and Sunday were full of rest and relaxation. Drop a comment on your favorite memory from your weekend!
