52 Project: The First Week

I just love photographs, don’t you? I find myself pausing at every photo in my Facebook feed to see what fun stuff my friends have been up to, or how big their son is or how sweet their dog is.

That’s why when I heard about 52 Project from Meredith at A work in Progress (who also has twins), I had to join in the fun and post a pic a week for all of 2015. How cool will it be come December 31st to look back at all the memories over the year and see how much my family has grown? Plus I’m loving learning how to use my camera and developing my skills as a (totally) amateur photographer.

This week’s photo is of Madeline, and here’s the story.

The night before, my husband and I had been out late~ish stargazing, and my mom had babysit the kids. Grandma is so much fun to be around that all the kids were too wound up to go to sleep. In the end everyone ended up going to bed pretty late. Except the baby. He’d been asleep all evening and, accordingly, was rested enough to be up into the wee hours of the morning.

Madeline had risen with the sun after my husband and I had already spent a looooooooooong night up with the baby. We tried letting her cuddle with us in our bed, in hopes of at least getting a few more minutes of  rest, but Madeline wasn’t on board with that plan. Instead, she was having a grand ol’ time giggling, tickling daddy’s armpit, and proudly announcing, “All done ni-nite!”

Apparently, it was time to get up.

We brought her to the living room where she immediately grabbed a coloring book and crayons and proceeded to work on her art. Meanwhile, the other 3 children, who were as tired as Madeline should have been, continued to snooze until a more natural time of day.

Mommy and Daddy were dragging the whole rest of that day, and it all started with this sweet smiling face. It was worth it, really, because I got a photo of my lopsided-braid, bright-eyed little one and some quality time to spend with her before her siblings woke up.
